I won't die
(Nem halok meg) - 2024 dir.: Asia Dérova
Gabor is a successful, confident gallery owner, part of the artist high society of Budapest. He is always busy, for him, there is no invincible obstacle, he has reached where he is, on his own. A hurtful breakup and the diagnosis of a fatal illness gives him a chance to revise his values and choices. He does not look at his illness as a tragedy, but as an opportunity for a complete new beginning. He miraculously survives pancreatic cancer, but the question remains: what is the cost of success and strength after all? While portraying Gábor’ struggles through a sensitive lens the film explores the existential challenges of the modern world.
If not a fatal illness, what can make us slow down so we will be able to realise our true needs?
The Lost Notebook
(Den tabte notesbog) - 2024 dir.: Ida Marie Gedbjerg Sørensen
An anonymous worker in communist Hungary meticulously records in his diary the 2158 films he saw at the cinema from 1942 to 1994. In the present day, Danish filmmaker Ida Sørensen finds the diary in an attic in Budapest and embarks on a journey into the paths of deep passion for cinema. Her path meets that of a family divided by secrets and hidden traumas and united by a passion for cinema - in particular, action cinema. With the use of clips from the titles recorded in the diary, the film illustrates the secret dreams and desires of the Hungarian family and composes a tribute to the thaumaturgic power of cinema: a tool for traveling, finding justice and holding a family together.
